As Trading Analyst this role is tasked with providing tradable insights based on Cargill data & alternative data in vegetable oils, biodiesel and oilseeds markets. The role is within Cargill's Trading and Data Analytics and works directly with GEOS and CASC commodity trading desks.
The role will require interaction with diverse teams, leadership in communication, and strong influence in trading decisions. The candidate will build a very strong understanding of Cargill internal data to derive S&D/market insights.
Build on current initiatives to develop a comprehensive view of Cargill activity regarding vegoils, biodiesel and oilseeds products.
Build a strong understanding of commercial activity to be able to present, explain and challenge current models.
Be the go-to person for Order Flow Analytics in Oils & Seeds, as well as other alternative data feeds and analytics.
Analyse demand and order flow data to identify seasonality, trends and other patterns; and to find correlations of statistical significance between the demand and order flow data.
Techniques used include visualization, basic statistics, forecasting, multivariate time series analysis and dynamic regression.
At a later stage understand which self-learning software (AI) is available and to what extent deploying AI will enhance our analysis and understanding.
Generate and communicate trade ideas based on order flow analytics & alternative data which support trading pnl.
Support O&S Systematic trading desk generate ideas/strategies based on order flow insights.
Minimum Required Qualifications
MSc Degree in economics, econometrics, mathematics
1-3 years professional experience
Strong interest in financial markets, commodity markets, statistics/mathematics, forecasting, economic modeling.
Basic commercial experience and/or having had exposure in a commercial environment
Good working knowledge of the statistical methods mentioned
Superior numerical skills - i.e. in the top-10 bracket (can be tested)
Interest in big data analytics, new technologies
Ability to work in a global and diverse team
Strong communication and presentation skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Fluency in English
Inquisitive, open-minded, persistent and resilient. Not content with the obvious, willing to dig for additional granularity or simply more information. Ability to see an issue/a problem statement/an apparently evident relationship between quantities from different angles. Resilient and determined to continue working even in the face of failed attempts at uncovering these relationships. Independent and a self-starter. Structured and organized. Good listener and ability to see the big picture/connect all the dots. Affinity with and interested in commerce.
